Yamaha FZ-09 history

The Yamaha FZ-09 motorcycle called Yamaha MT-09 in Europe is a Yamaha naked motorcycle from the MT series with an 847 cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke 12-valve DOHC inline-three engine with cross plane, a lightweight cast alloy frame, and an inverted telescopic fork.

For 2018, the bike is now designated Yamaha MT-09 in all markets.

The FZ-09 competition is the Triumph Street Triple, the Kawasaki Z800, the MV Agusta Brutale 800 and Yamaha's FZ8.

Both the frame and the double-sided swinging arm are made of lightweight alloy which is cast in two pieces. The frame castings are bolted together at the headstock and at the rear, but the swinging arm parts are welded together. The FZ-09 is the first Yamaha motorcycle since the XS750 and XS850 to be powered by an inline-three engine. Both are shaft-driven motorcycles.

In 2017, the FZ-09 was updated with fully adjustable suspension, traction control, ABS, slipper clutch, LED headlights and new styling.
